We've Chronicled Our Missions of Mercy for 100+ Years
In 1907, Father James Walsh began publishing 'The Field Afar' (later renamed the 'Maryknoll' magazine) to avail the stories and joy of overseas mission to Catholics throughout the US.
Today, we continue to showcase the global tales of Maryknollers, as well as spark the call to mission in the US, through a variety of publications and media.
One of the most widely-recognized Catholic publications in the world, Maryknoll magazine conveys to American Catholics the needs, realities, and joy of mission work around the world. We capture inspiring stories of Maryknoll’s missions of mercy, and the people with whom we serve overseas.
The book publishing arm of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, Orbis Books offers a wide range of works on spirituality, Catholic life, theology, history, world Christianity, and mission.
Our books and authors address a broad readership, exploring the global dimensions of faith, inviting dialogue with diverse cultures and traditions, and serving the cause of reconciliation and peace.
Each year, the Maryknoll Magazine holds an essay contest for middle and high school students around the US – the 2017 essay theme, “Recognizing Violence and Promoting Peace,” asked students to cite examples of violence and tell what actions they are taking or could take to promote peace.
In a world where violence is all around us—in the news, schools, communities, entertainment, etc.—Pope Francis calls us “to take a clear stand for creative and active nonviolence and against all forms of violence.” Visit MaryknollSociety.org/Essay for more information and to enter online.
