2023 Maryknoll Student Essay Contest

ASSIGNMENT:

Jesus teaches us to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us. How can we, as followers of Jesus, stand up for peace and against the growing violence in our country?

Highschool

1st Place Prize:

$1,000 per division

2nd Place Prize:

$700 per division

3rd Place Prize:

$250 per division

Middle School

1st Place Prize:

$500 per division

2nd Place Prize:

$300 per division

3rd Place Prize:

$150 per division

ASSIGNMENT

Jesus teaches us to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us. How can we, as followers of Jesus, stand up for peace and against the growing violence in our country? Write an essay responding to that question.

ENTRY

Entries should be 500–750 words. Essays should include your name and division typed on each page.

2) mail essays to the address below. Mailed essays should be typed and stapled, each attached to an ENTRY COVER SHEET

ELIGIBILITY

Students in grades 6-8 (Division I) and grades 9-12 (Division II) who are currently enrolled in a Catholic school, Catholic religious education program, or Catholic youth ministry program are eligible.

DEADLINE

Entries must be submitted online or postmarked by MONDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2023. First-place essays will appear in the summer 2024 Maryknoll magazine. All winning entries will be published online at MaryknollSociety.org/Winners by April 15, 2024.

(a.k.a., Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers) and its affiliated entities (collectively, “Maryknoll”) may use the Entrant’s Essay and record the appearance, image, likeness and voice of the Entrant on video tape, audio tape, film, photograph or in any other medium and may publish the same in any form of publication, including but not limited to print, electronic, video, social media or the internet. I authorize the reproduction, distribution or public display of such material by any means on a royalty-free, worldwide basis and waive any right that the Entrant may have to monetary compensation or to inspect or approve the finished product or the uses made of the end product.
