What does Father Bob ask for in return? “Just prayers,” he says.

The mother of a little girl, Suriana, was so grateful for her

daughter’s operation that she urged her son, a student of Islamic

law, to pray to Allah for Father Bob. And a man whose

family member received care thanks to Father Bob shouted

out this greeting as the missioner passed by on his bike: “The

peace of Allah be upon you, my brother!”

I asked Father Bob to describe the reaction of Muslims to

his life of prayer and good works. “Many young people speak

with me,’ he said. “Some even say, ‘I want to do what you’re

doing.’ They understand that Jesus is my role model.”
