The Mission Formation Ministry (MFM) equips U.S. Catholics to live as missionary
disciples through faith formation, mission education, immersion experiences,
and pastoral outreach. We accompany individuals and communities—especially
youth and young adults—in responding to the call of the Gospel in a rapidly
changing world.
Position Summary:
Maryknoll is seeking a passionate and creative Mission Formation Minister – Team Leader for Young Adult Empowerment to lead its outreach and formation initiatives
with young adults. This position plays a key role in cultivating relationships,
developing innovative formation programs, leading immersion experiences, and
strengthening Maryknoll’s presence among young adult communities in parishes,
dioceses, and college campuses.
The Team Leader collaborates with other ministry staff to deliver high-impact formation events, build strategic partnerships, and integrate young adult outreach across the broader Mission Formation Ministry. This role also supports vocational promotion and contributes to team leadership, planning, and evaluation.
Regular hours include some evenings and weekends, as well as domestic and international travel.
Education: B.A. or B.S., as well as a graduate degree in theology or pastoral ministry, or equivalent experience in the areas of theology, catechesis, mission, social justice, teaching, pastoral ministry, etc. is required.
Key Responsibilities:·
Cultivation & Collaboration: Build and sustain relationships with diocesan, parish, campus,
and young adult ministry leaders to promote mission-focused collaboration and
engagement.
Formation Leadership: Develop and deliver mission formation programs including
workshops, retreats, presentations, and online learning, especially for young
adults.
Immersion Experiences: Plan and facilitate international and domestic immersion trips in
collaboration with universities and ministry partners, including pre-trip
formation and post-trip integration.
Resource Development: Create print and digital resources that inspire young adults and
support Maryknoll’s mission education goals.
Vocational Promotion: Collaborate with the Vocations Ministry to invite young men to
consider the Maryknoll priesthood or brotherhood and integrate vocational
awareness into formation efforts.
Team Leadership: Contribute to ministry planning, project implementation,
budgeting, and team coordination, especially in areas related to young adult
empowerment.
General Administration: Maintain records, participate in team life, ensure compliance
with safeguarding policies, and pursue ongoing professional development.
Qualifications:
- A deep commitment to Catholic mission and the vision of missionary discipleship
- Background in theology, pastoral ministry, or related field
- Experience planning, facilitating or leading immersion/service trips
- Experience in young adult ministry or campus ministry (parish, diocesan, or academic setting)
- Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
- Experience with program planning, group leadership, and team collaboration
- Willingness to travel for events, conferences, and immersion trips
- Familiarity with Catholic Social Teaching, global mission, and intercultural engagement
- A collaborative, flexible spirit and a desire to work within a mission-driven team
- Bilingual and fluent in Spanish and English.
