The Gospel reaches people in many forms today, and increasingly, digital and broadcast technology plays a significant role alongside traditional in-person parish life. For homebound parishioners, young adults with busy schedules, and others who may not regularly attend Mass in person, technology offers a meaningful way to remain connected to their faith community.
Maryknoll is helping expand parish outreach in Brazil by supporting livestreamed Masses, digital faith formation programs, and broader digital evangelization efforts. Improved communications technology allows the parish to maintain a consistent connection with parishioners who cannot regularly attend in person, whether due to illness, mobility limitations, distance, or scheduling constraints tied to work or family responsibilities.
Expanding parish outreach through digital tools reflects the Catholic Social Teaching principle of the Call to Family, Community, and Participation, ensuring that homebound and distant parishioners remain genuinely connected to their faith community rather than gradually drifting away. This project also carries forward Maryknoll’s evangelizing charism, adapting the Church’s oldest mission, spreading the Gospel, to reach people through the communication tools of the present day.

Healing, in the fullest sense, involves far more than treating physical symptoms in isolation. Many individuals carry emotional, psychological, and spiritual burdens alongside physical ailments, yet the professional services that could help address these deeper needs, counseling, therapy, and complementary treatments, often remain financially out of reach for lower-income families.
Maryknoll supports a holistic healing ministry that provides access to counseling, acupuncture, group therapy, and broader emotional support for individuals who otherwise could not afford these services. By offering a range of complementary approaches under one program, the ministry allows participants to engage with whichever form of support best suits their particular needs and circumstances.
Treating counseling, therapy, and complementary care as a unified whole reflects the Catholic Social Teaching principle of the Life and Dignity of the Human Person, understanding each individual as a unity of body, mind, and spirit rather than a collection of separate needs. For nearly three decades, individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS in São Paulo have turned to Maryknoll for compassionate, consistent support through the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual challenges that accompany a serious, chronic illness. The ministry’s longevity reflects both the ongoing need in the community and the trust it has built over many years of dedicated service.
Through home visits, hospital visits, individual and group counseling, educational programs, advocacy, and referrals to additional services, this ministry addresses the full range of needs that individuals facing HIV/AIDS commonly experience, recognizing that medical treatment alone rarely addresses the isolation, stigma, and emotional strain that often accompany the diagnosis.
Nearly three decades of continuous presence in São Paulo embody the Catholic Social Teaching principle of Solidarity, a sustained commitment that has outlasted the shifting attention many institutions have given to the HIV/AIDS crisis over the years. Trauma affects millions of people across Brazil and around the world, leaving emotional and spiritual wounds that often remain invisible to those around them, even as they profoundly shape a person’s daily life, relationships, and sense of safety. Violence, loss, abuse, and broader social hardship can all contribute to trauma that, left unaddressed, tends to compound over time.
Maryknoll supports counseling, workshops, and professional training programs designed to help individuals and communities recover from trauma stemming from these varied causes. Training programs in particular extend the ministry’s reach by equipping local counselors, community leaders, and pastoral workers with skills to recognize and respond to trauma within their own communities, multiplying the impact of the initial training investment.
This ministry reflects the Catholic Social Teaching principle of the Life and Dignity of the Human Person, affirming that healing from violence and loss is essential to a life lived in dignity, not a private matter to be endured alone.
