Job Description:

Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers is seeking a Mission Formation Minister (MFM) in Washington, DC. The Mission Formation Minister (MFM) is a missionary disciple and minister of the Church employed by Maryknoll to create a culture of mission in the U.S. Church by accompanying and forming communities of missionary disciples. The MFM will focus on outreach to and accompaniment of MFM’s target audiences, including primarily frontline parish, diocesan and campus ministers involved in faith formation and catechetical and pastoral ministry, Hispanic/Latino leaders and young adults. This role is responsible for cultivating strategic relationships with Church leaders and partners, developing and facilitating mission formation programs and immersion experiences, and creating high-quality educational resources. As a team member, the MFM collaborates closely with other staff to coordinate outreach, support vocational promotion, and contribute to the implementation and evaluation of the annual Ministry Plan. Through active participation in team life, professional development, and administrative compliance, the MFM helps ensure program excellence, consistent messaging, and the strengthening of Maryknoll’s visibility and impact in the U.S. Church to create a culture of mission.

Regular hours include some evenings and weekends, as well as domestic and international travel.

Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S., as well as a graduate degree in theology or pastoral ministry, or equivalent experience in the areas of theology, catechesis, mission, social justice, teaching, pastoral ministry, etc. is required.
  • Passion for God’s mission as revealed in Jesus, with a commitment to building “communities of missionary disciples” in the U.S.
  • Strong understanding of local contexts and faith formation and catechetical and pastoral ministry audiences, Hispanic/Latino leaders and young adults, with the ability to listen deeply, discern the Spirit’s movement, and respond with creativity, flexibility, and collaboration in a synodal spirit.
  • Familiarity with and support for the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers’ history, Mission Vision, and Strategic Mission Plan, and a desire to represent Maryknoll within the U.S. Catholic Church.
  • Knowledge of and alignment with contemporary Catholic theology, especially in the areas of missionary discipleship and Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Previous mission-focused, multicultural pastoral ministry or experience(s), particularly with faith formation programs, Hispanic/Latino communities and young adults is preferred.
  • Ability to navigate complex, evolving organizational and ecclesial landscapes with patience and persistence, exercising both independent initiative and collaborative engagement. Demonstrates a commitment to synodal practices—marked by deep listening, mutual discernment, and responsiveness to the Spirit—while working adaptively within shifting paradigms and team-based ministry contexts.
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally; evening and weekend work is often required.
  • Ability to meet the good standing requirements of the local or home diocese particularly with regard to safe environment and protection of children.
  • Good public and interpersonal communication skills along with particularly good teaching abilities and skills
  • Good organizational skills and basic digital, computer, internet and keyboarding skills, including familiarity with social media, Google Drive, Microsoft Office Word, HubSpot, etc.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish is required.
  • Good driving record.

Salary: $61.928.00

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm
