(Peru) AIDS Shelter for Women and Children
This is one of two AIDS shelters in Peru for women and children. Located in Lima, Hogar de Vida provides shelter, food and medical care for children and women with HIV/AIDS. It is also a drop-in center for HIV patients -- 15 women and 35 children. Most of them come from the provinces and have few family members, if any, in Lima.
In addition to serving three meals a day, Hogar provides occupational therapy and assistance to people navigating the complex public health system.
- Provided occupational therapy with nurse technicians who monitor the HIV treatment
- Accompanied the mothers with their children to their doctor's appointments or hospitals
- Provides 24/7 care to the 15 children and 5 mothers who live at the shelter
- Offered breakfast and lunch six days a week to approximately 40 outpatients
A large portion of the program cost is for food, so your gift will give an AIDS patient a hot meal and a reason to go on.
