Now that many of us are working from home, it’s a great time to develop and practice good habits of practicing “green.” The Green Business Partnership is launching a new “green tips” series: Sustainability at Home (Office!). So get your house members together and have fun coming up with ideas on how to green your home office. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
1. Printing at home can become costly if you don’t set limits. Review documents online. If you have to print, select double sided printing. Reuse the unused side of the paper for notes, shopping lists, as scrap paper for your kids, craft projects, etc.
2. Turn off the lights when you leave the room and don’t forget to turn off your computer at the end of the day. Take advantage of natural sunlight as much as possible.
3. Now that everyone is home all day, you might be tempted to increase your preset room temperature. Heating your house only a few degrees more can quickly add up, and you might not be happy with your next heating bill. Get a warm sweater and a blanket, and don’t turn that dial up. If you get cold while sitting for extended periods of time, get up and walk around, do some jumping jacks, or go for a walk with your house members or your pets. If it is a sunny spring day, go outside to warm up in the sun. We all need more vitamin D!
