(Tanzania) Ministry for People with Albinism

The number of people with Albinism is very high in Tanzania--far more than in many other Sub-Saharan African country. People with Albinism are horribly persecuted in Tanzania. Their skin is thought to have magical properties, so they are killed, dismembered and their body parts used in magic potions. Or, they are killed because people think them cursed and bearers of bad luck. Either way, they’re in an incredibly precarious situation.

(Tanzania) Programs for Students with Learning Disabilities

Though the Tunaweza program "We are able", Brother Loren Beaudry, M. M., helps young adults with learning disabilities to become self-reliant. They learn to wash, cook, garden, sew and to read and write in Kiswahili. With assistance, students receive math and speech therapy support as well as social services. At Bukumbi, a place for the mentally ill, Maryknoll supplies rice, vegetables and soup. While at the Mabatini parish, Brother Beaudry provides workshops, leadership training and fundraising. Your gift provides a brighter future!

(Tanzania) Public Health Work at Mabatini Parish

The project continues to help the community address its public health concerns with a focus on the special needs of the disabled in the parish. Under the direction of Father Lam Hua, M.M., Maryknoll will continue to provide natural medicines and provide health education and screening in the community and schools. With your generous support, we will build our own facility to continue to carry out this important work. Your gift is a blessing to those in need.

There is an increased need of involvement of the lay people in evangelization. Catechists are very helpful and are able to evangelize. However, they would need formal training on how to do it effectively.
