Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, a non-profit known as the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America, is looking for an Accounting Specialist. This position works within the General Ledger section of our Accounting Unit and handles the accounting activity for all Society Members’ accounts and serves as the primary accounting contact with various locations throughout the United States.

Maintaining confidentiality and attention to policy adherence are essential in this position. This position also records and verifies individual account activity, prepares wire transfers and tracks other transfer requests. This position monitors activity for the remote locations and interfaces the monthly activity to our software system.

Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate who will import information between software systems, retain and adhere to policy requirements, and maintain ongoing contact with Society Members, internal departments as well as other U.S. locations. It is essential that the ideal candidate have strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with financial inquiries and requests in a professional and sensitive manner. Also, the candidate should possess the skills to be able to multi-task, the leadership skills to mentor and guide contacts from remote locations and the accounting knowledge to record and track activity. This position will be required to possess strong analytical skills as well as an accounting background.

  • Associates degree in Accounting
  • 2-3 years accounting experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Ability to consistently adhere to fixed deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail for policy adherence
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks
Requirements

This position is responsible for journal entry preparation, cost allocation journals, analyzing accruals as well as monthly account analysis. Additionally, this position plays a vital role in the month end and year end closing process. For example, this position is responsible for producing annual 1099-INT forms and works in conjunction with our Accounts Payable section to produce 1099-MISC forms at year end.
